Book Suggestions

Does anyone know of any good fiction books? I bought the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe today, but they don't seem long enough for me (after reading huge Harry Potter books). I want a new fiction series to read. Or any good read for that matter. Before anyone mentions the Lord of the Rings, I have tried to read the Fellowship of the Ring twice and I got over halfway through both times and never finished it. Tolkien just goes into too much detail in describing landscape and surroundings. I'm exhausted in trying to visualize everything and wish he'd get along with the story already! I may have another crack at it one day because the set is only like 30 bucks.

Also...Has anyone here read Mere Christianity (I'm probably the only Christian who hasn't.)? I thought about picking it up today.

Please. I really want more reading material!

Matthew, have you heard of the Maximum Ride series by James Patterson? It's apparently a real hit. I sent Heather a link about it because she's also been looking for really good fiction to read. I haven't read these personally but here's the link if you'd like to check it out for yourself:

Hope this helps!

P.S. - I haven't read Mere Christianity either so that makes two of us, lol.

Hey! I recommend the "Shack" book. I nearly read the whole thing, but I usually don't last through ficitonal stories... That's what movies are for! LOL, just kidding!

So yeah! The Shack by William. P. Young....

In Freedom, Nicole!

Hi, Matthew

I enjoyed Wisdom Hunter by Randall Arthur. Great book about Father's grace. It's not in a series but he also wrote two other books that follow this one. They weren't as good as Wisdom Hunter though.

Wayne Jacobsen's brother, Clay Jacobsen, has written a murder mystery which I enjoyed called The Lasko Interview. He's written a couple of others but I haven't read any of them. The Lasko Interview also has a focus on living relationally as the people of God. It's a really good book.

I haven't read Mere Christianity either so that makes three of us. I started it but didn't get too far into it before I stopped. His style of writing is too deep for me.

Matthew,
Hey don't feel bad, I haven't read "Mere Christianity" either, have it, but just can't seem to get around to it!
You could try reading all the Narnia books..I believe "Prince Caspian" the MOVIE, is coming out in the next month or two!
Also, have you ever read any of Frank Peretti's books? "This present darkness" and "Piercing the Darkness" ..very creative...I enjoyed them immensely!

I second Wisdom Hunter, also, anything by James Herriot is really funny and interesting. Can't believe you couldn't do LOTR, I guess I'm a fast reader and probably skim over anything I think is boring. You have to read all of Narnia though! Just my opinion... Do you like any classic Lit.?

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have 41 dollars left on a bookstore giftcard and I had no idea what to buy.

I just wanted to let you all know that I bought Destined to Reign by Joseph Prince. It is amazing! You all have to read it! I normally don't like the books with covers like Joel O'steen or Dr. Phil, but he preaches on nothing but the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the whole book. It's a good sized book too. 305 pages. It cost about 20 dollars, but is well worth it!!!

The Joseph Prince book sounds good Matthew - now you will just have to share quotes from it on the blog!!!!!

Thanks for reminding me, Lydia. It's so good I forgot all about sharing >:)

A very interesting and engrossing secualar fantasy series is written by Tad Williams. It is called Memory, Sorrow and Thorn. The first book was The Dragonbone Chair but I think they may have since combined that book with Stone of Farewell into one. When I was young I read Lord Fouls Bane about a leper who is transformed into another world by a white gold ring. That is by Steven R Donaldson. I read a lot of fantasy years ago.

Grace upon grace,

Brian

Hey, I just ran across your blog while browsing and wanted to say that Mere Christianity is a must read. I've read it twice and have gained insight from it that will stay with me. Pick it up, it's hard to put down.

I agree with Lydia. Destined to Reign sounds like a must read but my list seems to be getting longer and longer. I hope you'll share some quotes just in case I don't get a chance to read it.

It is so hard to pick quotes in Destined to Reign. There is so much stuff in there! I'm planning on reading it again because there is so much stuff in it, it's hard to remember! lol
