Handshaking

Just felt like posting on this...

I HATE it when a guy gives me a limp handshake! It's the grossest feeling. If you're shaking a girls hand, fine. But I'm a BOY. SQUEEZE my hand. A good handshake is when the other guy dang near breaks your knuckles. It's like he's acknowledging to you, "You're a good man." and I return his compliment with my own knuckle crusher. It's the way things are. Please, don't give me a limp handshake. ESPECIALLY if you have soft hands.

Have you been reading the church greeter handbook again? ;)

Joel,
I had the same question! :)

I never liked it when people greeted me at the door. It was...awkward lol. Especially when I didn't know the person. I've not yet learned to be very affectionate. I don't initiate hugs or anything. I need to grow out of that..

In one of the churches we attended years ago, there was one greeter (a man) who kissed all the ladies as he greeted them into he church, including my wife. I didn't like it and she didn't either! Because he barely knows us! He even kisses the people he sees first time.

I never liked all these kissing businesses, a hand shake or a hug is ok, but please no kiss!

Whoa! I hear ya. The Bible does say greet one another with a holy kiss, but we are living in different times I guess. I don't wanna come off like I hate to hug people or anything. I'm just shy. ;)

Uh oh, Matthew,
What are you going to do when I squeeze you 'til you squeak? ;)

About the post, no one respects limp, wimpy handshakes, either, huh?

I've yet to get to meet face to face with someone who loves the Gospel of grace. I feel a strong affection for everyone who does. The affection of Christ Paul talked about? I think so. I just want to be free to express that love and affection for all my brothers and sisters without fear.

So...to answer your question, I would love every moment of it! I need to shake the dust off this earthsuit that cowers at true love.

Matthew,
I think the first century Christians lived as close-knit community, almost like a family, which in fact is the biblical idea of community in first place. But we lost it. When today's 500 or 1000 member church, where people don't really know each other, practices Holy Kiss, it looks almost like weird as a ritual :)

In the last church I attended they kissed each other after the Holy Communion, which they did once in a month. For me, it was a time of utter confusion and embarrassment because I get so very confused about should I kiss the other person on the right cheek or the left! They try to hug me over my left shoulder, and I, in the time trying to hug them through the other shoulder :) Oh Boy! Even today I don't know how to predict how the other person is going to hug/kiss me.

There were moments I just wanted to run from them :)

There were some people literally run after after us, hug us, kiss us and leave, as though they are determined to kiss at least 50 people one day!

Ummmm,
You better get shakin'.

How does the fourth week-end in October look on your schedule?

The way you feel about handshakes is the way I feel about hugs - Hug me like you mean it, none of that side hugging pat pat on the back! I can do without the holy kiss, I'll take a holy hug instead!!!

lol...I'm guilty of the side hug, pat on the back! oops! :)

RJW,

It's great on my schedule. :) Let me know what you guys would like to do.

Hey Matt,
Its good to express without fear, so don't take it wrong when I disagree :), I personally don't feel the need to show "manliness by breaking knuckles lol, actually, I have a fairly painful inflamation of tunnel carpal, and always wonder if someone else does, or arthritis of some sort and hate the thought of inadvertenly causing pain to someone by giving too much of a squeeze. I rekon there are many ways to show respect, but taking the chance of hurting someone though just doesn't classify as respect giving to me. Again, not being an agitator is saying so :)

Good point, Ron. I should take that into consideration the next time someone gives me a limp handshake lol. I seriously never thought of that.
